I began Buddhist practice in 1976, first in the Vipassana and then the Zen tradition. In 1977, I received a Master's degree in Buddhist Ethics from Yale University. As a student there, I had to present each paper separately to professors on the Ethics faculty and professors on the Buddhism faculty, because the field of Buddhist Ethics was not yet recognized in Western academic institutions. Since 1986, I have studied and practiced in the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.  I have completed a three year retreat at home under the close supervision of a qualified lama, receiving all levels of the Dzogchen path. I have been designated as a teacher in my teacher's lineage, and offer traditional meditation instruction separately from my psychology practice.
